Stages of Care
The typical patient will encounter 3 stages of care.
The first stage focuses on symptomatic relief such as reduction of pain and other discomforts. The following stage addresses tissue healing and function normalization. The final stage consists of periodic spinal care to prevent the formation of new injuries, minimize future flare-ups of old injuries, and prevent degenerative spinal processes from occurring.
|Relief Care||stage 1|
|Corrective Care ||stage 2|
|Wellness Care||stage 3|
Relief care is the first stage of care for most patients. The primary goal during this initial stage is to provide the individual with symptomatic relief. Treatments focus on those techniques and therapies which most quickly and effectively reduce pain and other discomforts. This will allow the majority of individuals to continue their activities of daily living. Patients are generally recommended to "take it easy" but are encouraged to stay mobile and functional so long as there is not a risk of further injury or tissue damage. Therapies that reduce inflammation and muscle spasm are also used during this stage when present.
The second stage of care consists of correcting the problems which caused and contributed to the condition and healing and rehabilitating the injured tissues. Unless these events take place, a favorable outcome is unlikely and future recurrences of the problem are likely. It is extremely important that the patient comply with and follow the instructions given by the doctor during this stage of care. Tissues and structures that are not fully healed and rehabilitated are prone to future problems. Sticking to appointments, complying with home exercises and instructions and following all other recommendations will help insure this occurs. Patients should also be aware that once pain and discomfort have subsided, tissue healing and functional correction is many times still incomplete and will often require additional treatments.
Once the spinal tissues are healed and spinal biomechanics have normalized the patient will be recommended to continue with periodic spinal checkups. For some this might mean once per year, for others this may mean once per month or more. Chiropractic spinal checkups provide similar benefits to the spine that dental checkups provide to the teeth like catching minor problems and disturbances before they have the opportunity to cause pain, discomfort and irreversible tissue changes. Just like with cavities and heart attacks, irreversible tissue damage has generally occurred before the symptoms of spinal pain and discomfort become apparent.
What to Expect
- Patient Forms
Upon entering our office our receptionist will greet you and welcome you as a member of our family. We will request you to fill our patient forms. The paperwork provides us with general information about yourself and your condition such as old injuries, chronic problems, and the patient's present symptoms and so on. All members of the staff are always available for a complete and thorough discussion with the patient.
Next you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, as well as potential treatment options. Your first visit is designed for the doctor to learn more about you, your condition and your expectations to determine whether chiropractic care will you meet your goals.
After your consultation your doctor will perform a complete chiropractic examination testing your reflexes, your ability to turn and bend as well as other standard neuro-logic, orthopedic, postural, and physical examinations. Nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
- X-Ray Studies
Your specific condition may require x-rays to get a full evaluation of a patient. X-rays help us rule out more serious conditions and assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you. Most people are amazed once they see their x-rays and can often immediately identify their misalignments and degeneration themselves.
- Report of Findings
After discussing your history and goals with you, examining your spine and reviewing any x-rays or tests, the doctor will discuss recommendations and treatment options with you. If you have a condition that requires care with other providers, the doctor will tell you. If the doctor believes we can help you, we will recommend treatment and a wellness program.
Patients will generally be provided with their first treatment at the conclusion of the appointment. This may include spinal adjustments, and if need be, soft tissue therapies. Treatment is interactive with you so you can express any concerns you have about the style of adjustment you will be most comfortable with.
- Wellness Program
Prior to leaving, patients will be instructed on a wellness program to be conducted at home. If you are in pain when you first come into our office this may include ice or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches. If you desire an overall wellness lifestyle, our wellness team will work with you to create good habits and routines that support your success. Every body is unique and different and therefore everyone requires a unique and customized wellness plan. The foundation of our overall wellness lifestyle is maintaining healthy posture and good spinal alignment, eating a healthy diet, taking supplements, keeping your weight under control and stress relief.

Gentle Care For All Ages
The modern Chiropractor can be called to provide care for patients of all ages. Children are the easiest to help, for their spinal problems are not long-standing, and they respond quickly. There is no age limit on those who might benefit from Chiropractic care, and many patients come with long-standing problems that other healing avenues have not been able to help. In many cases like these where patients at last find relief, it is due to Chiropractic treatment of the cause of the problem rather than its effect.
Our Family Policy
We are always honored to be chosen as the "family doctor." If another member of your family requires care, please feel free to bring this to our attention and to discuss it with us. We do ask that the spouse of a new patient be present during the initial "Report of Findings." This often saves time as questions about care and procedures can be answered to everyone's satisfaction. Our policy is to examine all members of your family.
